| The Association for Protection of Animals was founded in December 2001
and today counts around 30 members. It is a non-profitable, humanitarian and voluntary
association, founded with the aim of preventing abuse and inhumane treatment of animals
and raising awareness for a more noble relation towards animals. Permanent aims
- Housing of abandoned and uncared-for animals
- Sterilisation, castration, offering of medical treatment and feeding of uncared - for
animals
- Education of citizens regarding the rights and protection of animals
- Organising of instructive lectures,charitable activities and education of the youth
- Registration of negative occurences and treatment of animals and undertaking of all
available legal measures by reason of preventing animal abuse
- Activities directed towards setting up of a humane shelter for uncared - for and
abandoned animals
Activities of the Association in year 2002.
- Engagement in the activity of sterilisation and castration of dogs and cats in the town
of Korčula (which was initiated by the Municipality in October 2001. Around 60 animals
were involved).
- Purchase of a big mobile cage for humane accommodation of sterilised and sick animals
during medical treatment
- Publishing of information regarding activities of the Association through notices.
- We have found a home for 7 stray dogs (one in Berlin)
- We have found a home for 30 cats (one in New Zealand)
- We have organised placement of boxes for collection of charitable donations.
- We organised an exhibition in the Town Library of Korčula by reason of 4th October -
the International Day for Protection of Animals.
- We have organised educational lectures in the primary school «Petar Kanavelić» and
the kindergarten in Korčula.
- We have engaged ourselves in the campaign which is being held in Croatia for the change
of the existing, inadequate and inhumane Law for the welfare of animals.
The members of the Association help animals through voluntary work. Should you wish to
become a member, please contact our Presidency. The annual membershio fee is 60 KN, and
for children and pensioners 30 KN. All members have a discount for veterinary services in
ambulance «Papagalo» in Korčula.
