Marco Polo center
The Tourist Council of the Tourist Board of the town of Korcula, at its session which took place in November 1997, made the decision to found International Centre Marco Polo with its seat in Korcula.
The activities of the Centre are: research, gathering of documents, organizing scientific symposiums, publishing, promoting activities.
The Centre will especially initiate the research on:
  • the life of Marco Polo,
  • the connections of Marco Polo and his family with Korcula,
  • the significance of the discoveries of Marco Polo,
  • Marco Polo's importance for his and for our own time,
  • Polo's contemporaries in Korcula and abroad maritime battle in vicinity of Korcula on September 7th, 1298.,
  • Marco Polo in literary works,
  • general and specific biographies of Marco Polo.

The Centre will devote a special care to the arrangement of the house of Marco Polo in Korcula, and promote various forms of using the name of Marco Polo in order to promote Korcula's tourism.
