PRESENTATION OF THE MUSICAL
"MARCO POLO – A NEVER ENDING STORY"
IN KORČULA – THE BIRTHPLACE OF THE GREATEST WORLD TRAVELLER
The musical "Marco Polo – A Never Ending Story", in the duration of 120 minutes, will be presented in the town of Korčula (hotel "Korčula"), Republic of Croatia, on Saturday March 24th 2001, at 11,00 a.m., under the auspices of the Tourist Board of the Town of Korčula.
The musical is written in English and consists of 23 songs, while the libretto describes the return of the great Traveller from China into Europe during a two and a half year long journey by sea. You can learn more about the contents of the libretto and listen to 10 songs from the musical on the web pages of the Town of Korčula http://www.korcula.net/mpolo/musical, in the chapter KORCULA and MARCO POLO. The libretto was written on the basis of the travel book "Million" by Marco Polo who inspired Christopher Columbus and who has a copy of this book on his historical discovery of the new world.
The musical will be presented to the public by the authors: Goran Duka and Teo Trumbić and also by maestro Ivo Lipanović who was the Music Director of the Croatian National Theatre Split from 1992 to 1998 and the Artistic Director of the Split Summer Festival. He is one of the best known Croatian conductors. Among other things, he conducted in 1995 the new production of Don Carlos in the Seoul Opera House; in 1996 Faust in Teatro Lirico Cagliari, Mendelssohn – Saint Saens Cycles in Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, the new production of Carmina Burana in Ankara State Opera House; in 1977 Faust, Werther, Le nozze di Figaro in Teatro Lirico Sperimentale in Spoleto, Andre Chenier in Ankara State Opera House; in 1998 Carmen in Ankara State Opera House; in 1999 Carmina Burana in Deutsche Oper Berlin, Faust in Ankara State Opera House; in 2000 Eugene Oneguine in Oper de Nice; in 2001 Falstaff in Deutsche Oper Berlin – celebrating one hundred anniversary of Verdi’s death...
Other presenters will be: Živan Filippi, Ph.D., literary translator and language editor; Mihajlo Grgić, mr. sci., the president of the Tourist Board of the Town of Korčula, and Vladimir Depolo, dipl. iur., the president of the International Centre Marko Polo.
After the presentation, the press panel will take place when the journalists will be able to put questions to the authors and their associates about the future international production of the musical "Marco Polo - A Never Ending Story".
